Description

Domaine A.F. Gros’ Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 is a poised and quietly powerful expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most characterful villages. It marries the structure and depth typical of Gevrey with the domaine’s finely tuned, detail-driven style. This is a thoughtfully crafted village-level wine that offers both immediate charm and the promise of graceful evolution in bottle.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 shows a luminous ruby hue with a touch of depth at the core, hinting at both intensity and finesse. The nose opens with a vivid mix of red and black cherry, layered with bramble, subtle earth tones and a gentle seasoning of oak spice. As it unfolds, more nuance appears—hints of dried flowers, a touch of sweet spice, and a faint mineral smokiness. On the palate, the wine is firm yet composed, with ripe cherry and berry fruit framed by fine-grained, well-knit tannins. There is a clear mineral line and a refreshing acidity that keeps the wine precise and energetic, carrying the flavors through a long, balanced finish. Already harmonious in youth, it will gain further complexity and integration over the next 5–10 years, rewarding those who choose to cellar it.

Production
Sourced from limestone-clay soils typical of Gevrey-Chambertin, this Pinot Noir reflects a terroir known for producing structured, deep and characterful reds. The vineyards benefit from a cool Burgundian climate, which helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision in the grapes. Harvesting at Domaine A.F. Gros is traditionally done by hand, allowing for careful selection of bunches in the vineyard and gentle handling in the cellar. Vinification is classically Burgundian, with a focus on expressing site and variety: a careful fermentation to extract fine tannins and pure fruit, followed by élevage in oak barrels, where a judicious use of wood brings subtle spice and texture without overshadowing the wine’s inherent elegance.

Food & Serving
This Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 pairs beautifully with dishes that echo its depth and structure: roasted duck, herb-crusted lamb, game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and refined poultry preparations are all excellent companions. It also works well alongside earthy cheeses such as Comté or mild washed-rind styles. Serve at around 14–16°C (57–61°F) to showcase its aromatic detail and balance. A short decant of 30–60 minutes in its youth will help open the bouquet and soften the tannins, while more mature bottles will benefit from a gentler splash-decant to remove any sediment.

Domaine A.F. Gros is part of the respected Gros family lineage in Burgundy, a name long associated with meticulous vineyard work and refined, terroir-driven wines.
