Dom Pérignon P2 2002 represents the second plenitude of one of Champagne’s most iconic names, offering an elevated expression of depth, precision, and finesse. Crafted from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from some of the region’s most prestigious vineyards, it stands apart for its extended aging and remarkable complexity. As part of the legendary Dom Pérignon legacy, P2 is designed to reveal a new dimension of the vintage with time.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a luminous golden hue with refined, persistent bubbles. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with ripe citrus, pear, and white flowers, then unfolding into notes of brioche, honey, and toasted almonds from its long maturation.
The palate is broad yet impeccably balanced, with a silky mousse, vibrant acidity, and striking mineral tension. The finish is long, precise, and evolving, and this cuvée has the structure and concentration to continue developing beautifully over many years.
Production
P2, or Plénitude 2, refers to Dom Pérignon’s extended cellar aging before release, allowing the wine to reach a later stage of expression and complexity. The blend combines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from selected top sites across Champagne, where chalk-rich soils contribute freshness, tension, and mineral character. Careful harvesting and precise vinification preserve purity and elegance, while long lees aging builds texture and aromatic depth.
Food & Serving
Best served at 8-10°C, ideally in a large tulip-shaped Champagne glass to allow the aromas to open fully. It pairs beautifully with oysters, langoustines, scallops, sushi, delicate fish dishes, and lightly prepared poultry. Decanting is generally not necessary, but a short rest in the glass can help the wine reveal its full aromatic range.
Producer
Dom Pérignon is the prestige cuvée of Champagne Moët & Chandon and one of the most recognized names in fine Champagne worldwide. Named after the Benedictine monk often associated with early Champagne development, the cuvée has become a benchmark for quality, craftsmanship, and aging potential. The P2 release highlights the house’s expertise in long maturation and its pursuit of wines that evolve into greater complexity over time.
