Description

Delouvin Nowack Champagne Meunier Perpetuel Extra Brut is a grower Champagne that puts Pinot Meunier firmly in the spotlight. Crafted from a perpetual reserve of multiple vintages, it delivers depth, complexity and a distinctly vinous character that will appeal to Champagne enthusiasts and adventurous wine lovers alike. This Extra Brut cuvée captures the energy and precision of the Marne Valley while remaining refined and gastronomic.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Meunier Perpetuel Extra Brut shows a bright, pale gold hue with a fine, persistent mousse. On the nose, it’s expressive and layered, offering notes of ripe orchard fruit—pear, apple and Mirabelle plum—woven with hints of citrus zest, white flowers, toasted brioche and a subtle nuttiness derived from its multi‑vintage reserve. The palate is taut yet generous, combining Meunier’s signature juiciness with a spine of chalky minerality. Flavors of baked apple, stone fruit and lemon curd unfold alongside delicate spice, toasted almonds and a saline, almost savory edge. The low dosage keeps the wine brisk and dry, highlighting purity of fruit and length. Thanks to the perpetual reserve structure, this Champagne shows impressive complexity now, with the ability to evolve gracefully for another 5–8 years in a good cellar, gaining more toast, hazelnut and honeyed nuances over time.

Production
Sourced from estate vineyards in the Champagne region, primarily in the Marne Valley where Pinot Meunier thrives on clay-limestone and sandy-limestone soils, this cuvée is all about expressing terroir through time. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to ensure careful selection and preserve acidity. The ‘Perpetuel’ element refers to a solera‑like reserve system, in which wines from multiple past vintages are blended and refreshed each year, building complexity and continuity of style. Fermentation takes place in a mix of stainless steel and, in some lots, neutral oak to add texture without overpowering the fruit. After secondary fermentation in bottle, the Champagne rests on its lees for an extended period before being disgorged with a very low Extra Brut dosage, allowing the character of Meunier and the terroir to shine.

Food & Serving
This Extra Brut Champagne is wonderfully food‑friendly and shines at the table. Pair it with oysters, scallop carpaccio, sashimi, sushi, or simple fish crudo to echo its saline, mineral edge. It also works beautifully with roast chicken, seared white fish, creamy risottos, charcuterie, and soft cheeses like Brie or Chaource. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F); a slightly warmer temperature will reveal more aromatic detail. Briefly opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving or giving it a gentle splash into a white wine or Champagne-friendly decanter can help the wine open up, especially if enjoyed in the first year or two after release.

Producer
Delouvin Nowack is a small, quality‑driven grower-producer in Champagne, known for championing Pinot Meunier and the distinct character of the Marne Valley. Working largely with estate fruit and traditional methods, the domaine focuses on precise vineyard work, low yields, and careful, terroir‑focused vinification. Their use of a perpetual reserve system for certain cuvées, like Meunier Perpetuel, reflects a commitment to complexity and consistency over time, much like a solera in the world of fine sherry. Among Champagne insiders and sommeliers, Delouvin Nowack has earned a reputation for offering artisanal, characterful wines that stand out in a region long dominated by the grandes marques.

It is not very often that you see a blanc de noirs made from 100% Meunier, but when you do, you should go for it.

Meunier perpetuel from Delouvin is an absolutely fantastic glass of champagne that can be enjoyed as an aperitif as well as with a wide variety of food. Fleshy fruit blended with solera aging gives this champagne an insanely complex expression, while also showing why Meunier can easily stand on its own!

Absolutely fantastic!
