Delas Freres Chateauneuf du Pape Haute Pierre Rouge 2022

Delas Frères Châteauneuf-du-Pape Haute Pierre Rouge is a classic Rhône red that combines power, finesse, and the distinctive character of one of France’s most celebrated appellations. Crafted mainly from Grenache with a touch of Syrah, it reflects both the generosity of the southern Rhône and the estate’s long heritage, dating back to 1835.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet colour that hints at the concentration to come. The nose is expressive and spicy, with layered aromas that lead into a rich, full-bodied palate balanced by delicate tannins. On the finish, intense licorice notes emerge and linger, promising excellent ageing potential and rewarding development over time.

Production
The grapes for this Châteauneuf-du-Pape are carefully destemmed and pressed before fermentation in concrete tanks for around 10 days, followed by an additional 8 to 10 days of maceration. The wine is then aged for 8 to 14 months in large 60-hectolitre oak casks, allowing the fruit and spice of the Rhône terroir to remain at the forefront while adding structure and depth.

Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, game, braised beef, grilled duck, and hearty Provençal dishes with herbs and root vegetables. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for an hour or two if drinking young to allow the aromas and texture to fully open.
