Description
Delarocque Champagne Brut Rosé is a vibrant, expressive rosé from the heart of France’s Champagne region, crafted from a classic blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This non-vintage cuvée is designed to showcase both elegance and intensity, making it as suitable for an aperitif as it is for a celebration. The passionate character of this rosé stems from the careful balance between the structure of Pinot Noir and the finesse of Chardonnay, a style long prized in traditional Champagne houses.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Delarocque Champagne Brut Rosé shines with a brilliant, delicate salmon-pink hue, underlined by a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose is expressive and charming, revealing notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants, and raspberries, layered with hints of citrus zest, rose petals, and a gentle touch of brioche and chalky minerality.
On the palate, it is dry, crisp, and beautifully balanced. Fresh red berry flavors take the lead—think ripe strawberry and cranberry—supported by blood orange, subtle stone fruits, and a refined, creamy mousse. The Chardonnay lends precision, tension, and a clean, lingering finish, while the Pinot Noir contributes depth and a delicate, vinous character. Enjoyable now for its energy and fruit, this non-vintage rosé will maintain its charm for several years if properly cellared, developing slightly more biscuity and toasty nuances over time.
Production
Sourced from selected vineyards across the Champagne region, Delarocque Champagne Brut Rosé reflects a cool, chalk-driven terroir that promotes high acidity and pure, focused fruit. The Chardonnay parcels contribute finesse and mineral tension, while the Pinot Noir parcels provide color, body, and aromatic depth, often from slightly warmer, well-exposed sites. Grapes are typically harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection in the vineyard. The rosé color is most likely achieved either by a short maceration of Pinot Noir on its skins or by blending a small proportion of still red Pinot Noir wine into the base, both traditional methods in Champagne. After a gentle pressing and cool fermentation in stainless steel to preserve freshness, the base wines are blended with reserve wines for consistency, then bottled for the secondary fermentation. The wine is aged for an extended period on its lees to build complexity and texture before disgorgement and a carefully judged brut dosage.
Food & Serving
Delarocque Champagne Brut Rosé is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with smoked salmon, tuna tartare, sushi, and fresh seafood, as well as charcuterie, roasted poultry, and soft, bloomy-rind cheeses like Brie or Camembert. Its red-berry profile also makes it a delightful match for dishes with a hint of spice or sweetness, such as duck with cherries or strawberry-based appetizers and desserts that are not overly sweet. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10°C (46–50°F), to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or in a decanter designed for sparkling wines can help the aromas open up, but extended decanting is not necessary—this Champagne shows beautifully straight from the bottle as it gradually warms.
Producer
Delarocque is a Champagne producer rooted in the traditions of France’s most celebrated sparkling wine region, focusing on classic blends that showcase both the elegance of Chardonnay and the expressive character of Pinot Noir. Working within the historic appellation, the house draws on Champagne’s centuries-old expertise in blending and secondary fermentation to craft wines that are both contemporary in style and faithful to regional heritage. While details of the estate’s history may be more discreet than those of the grand marques, Delarocque’s commitment to careful vineyard selection, traditional winemaking, and consistent quality has earned it a place among reliable, characterful Champagnes sought out by discerning enthusiasts looking beyond the most famous labels.
