D'Armailhac is situated in the northern Médoc, in Pauillac, on classic gravel soils over limestone and clay that are ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and its Bordeaux companions. The 2020 blend – 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot – reflects the estate’s varied terroirs, from deep gravel beds yielding structured, aromatic Cabernet to slightly cooler plots nurturing supple Merlot. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, then carefully sorted to ensure only the best berries make it into the final blend. Vinification typically takes place in temperature-controlled vats, allowing gentle extraction of color, flavor, and tannin, followed by élevage in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to refine texture and add subtle spice without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.
