Description
Dalle Ore Mappale 77 IGT Bio 2017 is a characterful organic white from Veneto that combines the depth of natural winemaking with a remarkably approachable profile. Crafted from Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and a touch of Riesling, it offers a complex, textural style that still feels precise and well‑balanced. Named after the cadastral plot “Mappale 77”, this cuvée is a true vineyard wine, expressing its specific site with clarity and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2017 white shows a deep straw to light golden hue, hinting at both its maturity and its unfiltered, minimally handled nature. The nose is rather dark‑spiced for a white, opening with subtle aromas of fully ripe Golden Delicious apple, dried exotic fruits and wild herbs, layered with notes of wet stone and a delicate touch of honey.
On the palate, Mappale 77 is very smooth and supple, with a fine, almost creamy texture that never feels heavy. Flavors of baked apple and quince jelly are joined by a faintly tart, slightly bitter note reminiscent of speierling (wild service fruit), adding an intriguing edge and dryness to the finish. A clearly marked, lightly salty minerality runs through the wine, while a gentle kick of acidity keeps it lifted and refreshing. Already beautifully harmonious, this 2017 vintage is drinking very well now and should remain at its peak for the short to medium term with proper cellaring.
Production
The fruit for Mappale 77 comes from a specific vineyard parcel in Veneto, whose soils and microclimate lend the wine its pronounced mineral backbone and savory depth. The blend is 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Grigio and 5% Riesling, all farmed organically to standards that go beyond legal requirements. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure careful selection in the vineyard, then fermented spontaneously in stainless steel with native yeasts. The wine is bottled unfiltered and with only minimal sulfur addition, allowing the natural character of the vineyard and varieties to shine through without cosmetic intervention.
Food & Serving
This textured, mineral white pairs beautifully with herb‑infused cuisine and dishes that can handle both richness and a slightly savory profile. Think grilled or roasted white fish, shellfish pastas, risottos with mushrooms or pumpkin, roast chicken with Mediterranean herbs, or aged semi‑hard cheeses. It also works well alongside vegetable‑driven plates like roasted root vegetables, fennel gratin or savory tarts. Serve at around 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight its aromatics while preserving freshness. A brief decant of 15–30 minutes can help the wine open up and integrate its more savory, mineral notes.
Producer
Dalle Ore Soc. Agricola is a family‑run estate in Veneto whose name, while meaning “by the hour” in Italian, is in fact the family’s surname. The winery is committed to organic viticulture that exceeds standard regulatory requirements, focusing on low‑intervention, characterful wines that still appeal to classic palates. By emphasizing manual work in the vineyard, spontaneous fermentations and minimal additions in the cellar, Dalle Ore has carved out a reputation for authentic, terroir‑driven bottlings within the region’s growing natural‑wine movement. Mappale 77 exemplifies their philosophy: precise, expressive and rooted in a specific place.
