Description
Dal Forno Vigne Seré Passito 2003 is a rare and uncompromising sweet wine from Veneto, crafted in the spirit of a great Recioto-style wine, though it does not carry the official classification. Made in tiny quantities and only in exceptional vintages, it reflects Dal Forno’s signature precision, intensity and sense of luxury.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine appears almost opaque, with deep dark color and violet highlights. The nose is powerful and layered, offering aromas of cherry liqueur, dried figs, cocoa, coffee, licorice and warm spices.
On the palate it is rich, concentrated and velvety, with generous sweetness balanced by impressive freshness and structure. The tannins are silky, the fruit is ripe and dark, and the finish is exceptionally long, unfolding with notes of chocolate, spice and more dried fruit. Thanks to its depth and balance, it has excellent aging potential and can continue to evolve beautifully for many years.
Production
Sourced from selected parcels in the Illasi Valley, this 2003 vintage is made from Corvina, Rondinella, Croatina and Oseleta. The grapes were carefully hand-harvested, then dried for around four months using the traditional appassimento method, which concentrates flavor, sugar and aroma before a slow fermentation preserves natural sweetness.
Production follows the same exacting standards as Dal Forno’s Amarone, with severe grape selection, very low yields and maturation in new French barriques. The warm 2003 growing season contributed to the wine’s especially ripe, concentrated and mature fruit profile.
Food & Serving
Best served slightly cool, around 14-16°C, to keep the sweetness and structure in balance. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate desserts, berry-based pastries, blue cheese, almond tart or simply on its own as a медitative after-dinner wine. Decanting is recommended, especially if the bottle has been cellared for a long time, to allow the wine to open fully.
Producer
Dal Forno is one of Veneto’s most celebrated producers, known for meticulous viticulture, tiny yields and a no-compromise approach to quality. Founded by Romano Dal Forno, the estate has become synonymous with powerful, age-worthy wines from Valpolicella and is widely respected for bringing exceptional precision and concentration to the region. Vigne Seré is among the house’s rarest cuvées and is produced only in very limited quantities in select years.
