Croix de Ducru-Beaucaillou is the second wine of the celebrated Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, offering a refined Saint-Julien expression with impressive pedigree and excellent value. Crafted in one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, it captures the elegance, precision and depth that have made the property a benchmark on the Left Bank.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 vintage is expected to show a deep ruby core with a polished, youthful sheen. Aromatically, it typically leans toward blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet and subtle cedar notes, with hints of graphite and spice that reflect its Saint-Julien origin. On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a balanced core of ripe dark fruit, savoury oak and mineral tension. While approachable earlier than the grand vin, it should still benefit from several years in bottle and can develop gracefully over the next 8 to 12 years.

Production
Produced from the vineyards of Saint-Julien on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, the wine benefits from gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and help concentrate fruit expression. The estate’s careful vineyard management and selective harvesting ensure that only well-ripened grapes are used for the second wine, preserving the house style while keeping the wine approachable in youth. Vinification is carried out with the precision associated with Ducru-Beaucaillou, typically involving parcel selection, temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in oak barrels to build structure and polish.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for best expression, and decant for around 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics and tannins to open up.
