Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, youthful ruby colour with violet reflections. The nose is poised and expressive, offering layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, cedar, violet, and subtle spice, with the château’s signature exotic nuance in the background. On the palate, it is concentrated and finely sculpted, with firm but polished tannins, lively acidity, and a core of dark fruit, mineral tension, and savoury complexity. The finish is long and confident, with excellent balance and clear promise for development over many years. While approachable with decanting in youth, it is built to evolve beautifully over the next 15–25 years and beyond.

Cos d’Estournel is located on the gravelly rise of Saint-Estèphe, where the proximity to the Gironde helps moderate temperatures and supports slow, even ripening. The estate’s vineyards benefit from a terroir that lends both power and freshness, with deep gravels and clay-rich soils contributing structure and complexity. The 2021 vintage was shaped by careful vineyard management and selective harvesting, with vinification focused on preserving purity, precision, and the estate’s distinctive character.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and richly flavoured mushroom dishes. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully.
