Coppo Nizza Pomorosso 2023

Coppo Nizza Pomorosso 2023 is a powerful, oak-aged Barbera that showcases the character of Nizza Monferrato in Piedmont. First made in 1984, Pomorosso has become one of Coppo’s most prestigious expressions of the grape, named for a red apple tree that once stood above the original vineyard.

Tasting Notes
Brilliant ruby red in the glass, it opens with aromas of red fruit and cocoa, lifted by a distinctive balsamic note of eucalyptus. The palate is rich and concentrated, with rounded oak, a harmonious structure and a notably long finish. Its depth and structure make it a good candidate for cellaring; enjoy it now or allow it to develop further in the bottle.

Production
The Barbera grapes come from vineyards in Agliano Terme, Castelnuovo Calcea and Nizza Monferrato, at around 200 metres above sea level. South- and southeast-facing slopes, Guyot-trained vines and calcareous clay marl soils contribute to the fruit’s ripeness and finesse. Carefully selected bunches are hand-harvested, then macerated on the skins with gentle pump-overs. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 14 months in oak barrels.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, allowing it time to breathe in the glass; a short decant can help open its aromas. It pairs well with rich pasta dishes such as tortelli, herb-crusted lamb chops and flavourful aged cheeses, including Bettelmatt.
