Why shop with us?
Connetable Talbot is the second wine of Château Talbot, one of Saint-Julien’s best-known estates, offering a more approachable expression of classic Left Bank Bordeaux character. In magnum format, the 2023 vintage is especially appealing for those looking to enjoy a refined, cellar-worthy Bordeaux with added aging potential and elegant presentation.
Tasting Notes
At this early stage, the wine is expected to show a deep ruby color with youthful brightness in the glass. The nose should lean toward blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, and subtle tobacco notes, with the hallmark freshness and graphite-like edge often associated with Saint-Julien.
On the palate, look for a medium- to full-bodied structure with polished tannins, ripe dark fruit, and savory oak tones that bring balance and length. The 2023 vintage should offer good harmony and a supple texture, while the magnum format will help preserve freshness and support graceful development over time. With proper cellaring, it should age well for several years, gradually gaining complexity and softer, more integrated tannins.
Production
Produced in Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Connetable Talbot benefits from the gravelly soils and temperate maritime climate of Saint-Julien, a terroir known for producing wines with finesse, structure, and balance. The grapes are harvested from estate vineyards associated with Château Talbot, then vinified with care to preserve fruit purity and the elegant, classic style of the appellation. As a second wine, it typically reflects a selection of parcels and barrels chosen for earlier accessibility while maintaining the estate’s overall identity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, duck breast, beef tenderloin, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open up more fully.
Producer
Connetable Talbot is the second label of Château Talbot, a historic and highly regarded estate in Saint-Julien with deep roots in the Médoc. The château has long been recognized for producing elegant, ageworthy Bordeaux blends that exemplify the balance and refinement of the appellation, and its second wine offers a more accessible introduction to that style.
