Colgin IX Estate Red 2016 is one of Napa Valley’s most coveted estate wines, a classically styled Bordeaux blend from the celebrated heights of Pritchard Hill. It combines power, precision, and remarkable finesse, and has long been recognized as a benchmark for world-class California Cabernet-based wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet-purple core with impressive density and intensity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, unfolding with blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, graphite, dried herbs, lavender, tobacco, and subtle smoky, earthy nuances. The palate is full-bodied and deeply concentrated, yet beautifully balanced and polished. Fine-grained tannins frame the dark fruit and savory spice, while the finish is long, poised, and perfumed. Though already compelling, this wine will reward patience and can evolve gracefully for 25–30 years or more.

Production
The 2016 IX Estate Red is sourced entirely from Colgin’s hillside estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill, where high elevation, rocky soils, and a cool Napa Valley hillside climate help shape its depth and aromatic lift. The 2016 blend consists of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot, harvested from carefully tended estate parcels and vinified using traditional methods. After fermentation, the wine matured for around two years in 100% new French oak before bottling.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb rack, braised short ribs, roast venison, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now; if cellaring, it will continue to open beautifully over the next several years.
