Cocchi Alta Langa Totocorde Brut Millesimato 2020 is a prestigious vintage Metodo Classico sparkling wine from Piemonte, crafted from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As Giulio Cocchi’s flagship Alta Langa cuvée, it combines the freshness of high-altitude vineyards with the depth and elegance gained through extended lees ageing—a refined expression of the region’s historic sparkling-wine tradition.
Tasting Notes
Bright and elegant in the glass, this Brut shows a lively mousse and a refined, persistent bead. The nose offers inviting aromas of candied citrus, lemon zest and delicate pastry, with the extended time on the lees adding subtle bakery complexity.
On the palate, it is structured yet energetic, with vibrant acidity and a satisfying, savoury freshness. Citrus flavours carry through to a fragrant, lemon-infused finish, balanced by the wine’s fine texture and understated richness. After at least 48 months of ageing on the lees, it is ready to enjoy but should continue to develop gracefully in bottle over the medium term when properly stored.
Production
The grapes come from hillside vineyards in Alta Langa on the right bank of the Tanaro River, planted at elevations above 250 metres. The hilly terrain and local climate encourage even ripening while preserving freshness and aromatic precision. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are harvested by hand, followed by a three-week primary fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. The cuvée is assembled after cold settling, then undergoes a second fermentation in bottle according to the traditional method. It matures for a minimum of 48 months on its lees in cool, dark cellars before manual riddling, cold disgorgement and the addition of a small dosage.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C in a tulip-shaped sparkling-wine glass. Its lively acidity and structured palate make it an excellent partner for delicate appetisers, oysters, shellfish, seafood risotto and sushi. Decanting is not necessary; instead, open carefully shortly before serving to preserve the wine’s fine mousse and aromatic freshness.
Producer
Giulio Cocchi is a historic Piemontese producer whose wines are closely associated with the region’s long-standing Metodo Classico tradition. Totocorde represents the estate’s prestige cuvée, created to showcase the quality and character of Alta Langa through extended bottle ageing and meticulous cellar work. Its combination of hand harvesting, manual riddling and long lees maturation reflects the craftsmanship behind this distinguished Alta Langa DOCG sparkling wine.
