Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, opaque purple-black color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose opens with layered aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, dried violet, and subtle spice, followed by nuances of graphite, cocoa, and toasted oak. On the palate, it is rich and tightly structured, with ripe dark fruit at the core, silky tannins, and a seamless balance between freshness and depth. Notes of dark chocolate, cassis, mineral-driven graphite, and well-integrated French oak carry through a long, refined finish. While already impressive, this wine has the structure and balance to age gracefully for many years.

Production
Roundabout Midnight is sourced from steep hillside blocks on Cliff Lede’s Stags Leap Estate in Napa Valley, where volcanic soils and excellent drainage help produce grapes of remarkable intensity and definition. The 2019 vintage is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller portions of Petit Verdot and Merlot added for structure and complexity. The fruit was hand-harvested, vinified in small lots, and matured for 21 months in French oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new oak used to support the wine’s depth without overwhelming its terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for premium cuts of beef, grilled ribeye, lamb, venison, or slow-braised short ribs. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, aged hard cheeses, and rich mushroom-based cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young, to allow the aromas and tannins to fully open.
