Cliff Lede Cabernet Sauvignon 'Poetry' 2019 is the estate’s flagship wine, sourced from the highest, steepest parcels of the Poetry Vineyard in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District. It captures the district’s signature combination of power, finesse, and tension, making it one of the most sought-after Cabernet Sauvignons from one of California’s most respected producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dense color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, blueberry compote, dried rosemary, graphite, and mocha, unfolding into darker floral and mineral nuances with time in the glass. The palate is rich and velvety, with flavors of dark chocolate, violets, cedar, and ripe plum wrapped around a powerful but beautifully polished structure. Fine-grained tannins and a fresh, chalky mineral streak keep everything in balance, leading to a long, expressive finish. This is a wine built for the cellar and will reward patience over many years.

Production
The fruit for Poetry comes from low-yielding hillside parcels perched above Yountville in the Stags Leap District, where steep slopes and well-drained soils naturally limit vigor and concentrate flavor. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified parcel by parcel, allowing each block’s character to be preserved and carefully assembled in the final blend. Aging takes place for around 22 months in 100% new French oak, adding structure and polish without overshadowing the fruit, while Christopher Tynan’s low-intervention approach and focused extraction highlight the wine’s depth and precision.

Food & Serving
Best served with premium cuts such as dry-aged ribeye, beef tenderloin, lamb chops, or braised short ribs, as well as dishes featuring wild mushrooms or truffle. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, as this will help the wine’s layers of aroma and texture fully emerge.
