Tasting Notes
In the glass, Poetry shows a deep purple-black color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with aromas of crème de cassis, baked black cherries, blackberry preserves, violets, graphite, pencil shavings, vanilla, roasted coffee, chocolate, smoked meat, and truffle. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, yet carried by remarkable freshness and precision. Dark berries, blue fruit, and black cherry unfold alongside licorice, cocoa, mineral notes, and polished tannins that give the wine structure and impressive length. This is a wine built for the cellar and should develop beautifully over 20 to 30+ years, gaining even more nuance and elegance with time.

Production
Poetry comes from Cliff Lede’s Stags Leap District estate in Napa Valley, a site known for producing Cabernet Sauvignon with the hallmark balance of power and refinement that defines the appellation. The blend is inspired by Bordeaux, typically centering on Cabernet Sauvignon and supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The wine is aged for 21 months in French oak barrels before bottling, helping frame the fruit with spice, polish, and complexity.

This is a wine for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, beef tenderloin, or game served with earthy accompaniments like mushrooms and truffles. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for several hours, especially if drinking young, to allow the tannins and aromatics to open fully.
