Description

Christmann & Kauffmann Cuvée No.104 is a bone-dry Riesling sparkling wine from Germany’s Pfalz, distinguished by a notably creamy, chalky texture and a long, austere finish. Disgorged in April 2025 after three years on the lees, it offers a polished, complex take on sparkling Riesling.

Production
The Riesling comes from Gimmeldingen and Königsbach in the Pfalz, where the soils include limestone and coloured sandstone and the vineyards face east-southeast. The vines were planted between 1995 and 2014. The wine spent three years ageing on its lees in bottle before disgorgement in April 2025; harvesting and other vinification details are not specified.

Food & Serving
Its crisp, bone-dry style should suit oysters, shellfish, fresh seafood and lightly fried dishes. Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Decanting is not necessary for this sparkling wine.

Currently one of the most interesting houses for sparkling wines in Germany, if you are looking for precise, clear, and not overly aggressive effervescence. The Riesling sparkling wine shows enormous clarity with very citrusy notes and is always very dry on the palate. Ideal as an aperitif or with seafood!
