Château Rocheyron 2011

Château Rocheyron 2011 is a poised and polished Saint-Émilion red that already showed remarkable balance in only its second vintage under the new leadership. Built primarily on Merlot with Cabernet Franc, it combines the depth of old vines with the freshness and precision that have quickly become the estate’s hallmark.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby hue with youthful intensity and subtle evolution at the rim. The nose is refined and layered, unfolding with dark cherry, blackcurrant, graphite, violet, cedar, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is silky and composed, with ripe dark fruit wrapped around a firm limestone-driven structure that gives the finish lift and definition. It is expressive now, but should continue to develop gracefully over the coming years, gaining more savory complexity and aromatic nuance.

Production
The wine comes from old vines rooted in limestone and clay soils, a terroir that lends both freshness and mineral tension to the blend. Vineyard work is carried out with great care and minimal intervention, and the grapes are harvested with close attention to ripeness and balance. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in concrete vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak used judiciously to preserve the finesse of the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for classic Bordeaux fare such as roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, or mushroom dishes with rich, earthy sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about an hour if opening now to let the aromas and texture fully open up.
