Tasting Notes
The individual vintages trace a fascinating arc of Pontet-Canet’s style: from the deep, opaque, black-fruited power of 2008 and the monumental, incense- and graphite-laced depth of 2009, to the concentrated, structured grandeur of 2010. The 2011 is more taut and chewy, while 2012 offers a more immediately stylish profile with cedar, berries and stone notes, and 2013 brings plush black plum and berry fruit wrapped in a velvety, age-worthy frame. Across the case, expect a classic Pauillac character of cassis, blackberry, pencil lead, smoke, cedar and floral lift, supported by firm but increasingly polished tannins. These wines are built for long aging, with the top vintages capable of developing for decades; the more approachable years will still reward patience and open beautifully with time in bottle.

Production
Château Pontet-Canet’s vineyards sit on the high plateau of Pauillac, close to some of the appellation’s most prestigious neighbors, with gravelly terroir that favors Cabernet Sauvignon and lends structure, purity and freshness. The estate is renowned for biodynamic farming, low yields and a meticulous approach to vineyard work, all of which contribute to the precision and energy found in these wines. Harvesting is done carefully by hand, and vinification is tailored to each vintage, including the use of a growing proportion of cement vats in certain years to preserve fruit expression and texture.

Food & Serving
These wines pair beautifully with classic Bordeaux fare such as ribeye, roast lamb, beef Wellington, duck breast, and game dishes with earthy sauces. They also work well with aged hard cheeses and truffle-based dishes. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting younger or more structured vintages for 1-3 hours to allow the aromas and tannins to open; older bottles should be decanted more gently and shortly before serving.
