Château Pontet-Canet 2021 is a refined Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most admired modern estates, known for combining deep classic structure with remarkable purity and energy. The 2021 vintage reflects a growing season shaped by extreme weather, yet it delivers impressive precision, elegance, and balance, with the estate’s signature character shining through.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep color with garnet highlights. The nose is precise and complex, unfolding with cedar, blackcurrant, graphite, and spice. On the palate, it is notably creamy, spicy, and elegant, with well-integrated tannins supporting the mid-palate and giving the wine both density and length. Layers of oak, chocolate, cedar, and dark fruit lead into a smoky, floral finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and it should develop beautifully over the coming years as its structure softens and its aromatic complexity deepens.

Production
The 2021 growing season at Pontet-Canet began early after an exceptionally mild February, with budbreak in mid-March and flowering on May 24. Despite a threatened cold spell at the end of March, careful soil management helped protect the vines. Veraison began on July 19, followed by a slow, even ripening period that culminated in the first Merlot harvest on September 24 and the Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot from October 4. The result is a wine shaped by careful vineyard work and measured harvesting at full maturity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young, to help the aromas open and the tannins show their full finesse.
