Description
Château Pontet-Canet 2009 Magnum is a superb expression of Pauillac, capturing the depth, concentration, and finesse that make this Fifth Growth so admired. From one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated warm vintages of the 21st century, it shows the kind of power and elegance that have made Pontet-Canet a benchmark for the appellation.
Tasting Notes
Deep dark ruby in the glass, it immediately signals richness and intensity. The nose is layered and inviting, opening with blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry, then unfolding into earthy, spicy notes with hints of smoke, tobacco, cedar, vanilla, chocolate, and mocha.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully structured, with remarkable concentration balanced by a silky texture. The tannins are ripe and integrated, the acidity keeps the wine lively, and the finish is long and persistent, leaving impressions of cocoa, toasted oak, and subtle spice. While already impressive now, it has the depth and structure to evolve gracefully for decades.
Production
Produced in Pauillac, where gravelly soils and an exceptional Bordeaux terroir help Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends achieve their classic power and precision, this wine benefits from the warm, generous conditions of the 2009 vintage. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with care to preserve concentration, balance, and aromatic complexity, followed by fine oak ageing to add polish and depth.
Food & Serving
This is an ideal wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as grilled beef, braised game, roasted lamb, or mature hard cheeses like Comté and blue cheeses such as Roquefort. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open fully.

Château Pontet-Canet is one of the most respected estates in Pauillac and a classified Fifth Growth with a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation.
