Description

Château Pontet-Canet 2005 Magnum is a standout Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most compelling properties, offering the depth and precision that helped make 2005 one of the region’s most celebrated vintages. In magnum format, it brings added aging potential and an even more impressive presence at the table, while showcasing the estate’s biodynamic philosophy and unmistakable Left Bank character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a deep, dark ruby wine with superb concentration and polish. The nose is layered and refined, unfolding with cassis, blackberry and plum, followed by cedar, tobacco, vanilla, cocoa, leather and a subtle touch of smoke and earth. The palate is powerful yet beautifully composed, with ripe, silky tannins and a core of dark fruit framed by spice, mineral freshness and well-integrated oak. The finish is long and elegant, echoing with notes of roasted coffee, chocolate and savory spice. While drinking beautifully now, it still has the structure and balance to age gracefully for many more years.

Production
Sourced from the gravelly terroirs of Pauillac, the wine reflects the classic structure and mineral drive of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Château Pontet-Canet is known for its biodynamic farming and careful, low-intervention approach, with hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting helping preserve purity and concentration. Vinification is designed to capture both power and finesse, with thoughtful oak maturation adding complexity without overshadowing the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, braised game and rich sauces, as well as mature cheeses such as Comté or Roquefort. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least an hour if opened now to allow the wine to fully раскрыть its aromatic layers and soften its texture.

Producer
Château Pontet-Canet is one of Pauillac’s most respected estates, with a history dating back to the 18th century and a strong reputation for quality in Bordeaux. The château has become especially significant for its pioneering biodynamic practices and its ability to produce wines that combine power, elegance and a strong sense of place. It is widely regarded as one of the leading names in the appellation and has earned praise for both consistency and innovation.
