Description

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2000 Magnum is a superb Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most admired estates, offering the kind of richness, polish, and longevity that have made the château legendary. In magnum format, this benchmark vintage has the added advantage of slow, graceful evolution, preserving freshness while amplifying the wine’s depth and complexity.

Tasting Notes
The 2000 shows a deep, dense purple color, hinting at its concentration and power. The nose is layered and expressive, with aromas of crème de cassis, mocha, coffee, dark chocolate, and subtle notes of bay leaf, tapenade, floral perfume, and a faint meaty nuance. On the palate, it is rich and opulent yet famously silky, balancing ripe black fruit with Pauillac’s signature cedar, cigar box, graphite, and earthy truffle tones. The tannins are refined rather than austere, giving the wine a luxurious texture and long, persistent finish. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and in magnum it should continue to evolve beautifully for many years to come.

Production
The wine comes from Pichon Comtesse’s prized vineyards in southern Pauillac, close to the Gironde estuary, where deep gravel soils provide ideal drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve full ripeness. The estate’s privileged location near Château Latour and its mosaic of parcels contribute both structure and finesse, while careful parcel selection allows the best fruit to be vinified separately for precision and balance.

Food & Serving
Serve this magnum at around 16–18°C and, if possible, decant it for 1–2 hours to allow the aromatics to open fully. It pairs beautifully with classic Bordeaux-friendly dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, and dishes with mushrooms, truffle, or rich jus.

Producer
Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has a long and distinguished history dating back to the late 17th century, and it became one of Bordeaux’s great names after the 1855 classification, when it was ranked a Second Growth. The estate is especially admired for its graceful, sensual style and for the remarkable work of Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, whose stewardship transformed the property and elevated its reputation worldwide. Under the Rouzaud family, the château has continued to invest heavily in both vineyard and cellar, maintaining its place among Pauillac’s elite producers.
