Château Pegau Côtes-du-Rhône Cuvée Maclura 2023 is a vivid example of classic Southern Rhône winemaking, bringing together charm, freshness, and depth in one very approachable red. Created by Laurence Féraud of the renowned Domaine du Pegau in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it carries the house style of warmth, rustic elegance, and regional character into a more accessible cuvée.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a vibrant, fruit-forward red with an inviting deep ruby hue. The nose opens with ripe red berries, sun-warmed cherries, wild herbs, and the unmistakable garrigue character of the Southern Rhône, followed by subtle notes of licorice, pepper, and dried flowers. The palate is supple and generous, with plenty of mature fruit balanced by a fresh lift that keeps the wine lively and easy to enjoy. The tannins are round and well-integrated, while the spicy, warm finish leaves a polished and appetizing impression. It can be enjoyed young for its juicy appeal, but it also has the structure to develop over the next 3–5 years.

Production
Made from a traditional Southern Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, Maclura reflects the sun-drenched terroir of the Rhône with its stony soils, Mediterranean warmth, and aromatic garrigue influence. The grapes are harvested with care to preserve freshness and balance, and vinified in a style that emphasizes ripe fruit, supple texture, and the savory spice that defines the region.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled meats, Provençal dishes, tapas, roasted vegetables, and richly seasoned Mediterranean food. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine if you are drinking it young.
