Description
Château Palmer is one of Margaux’s great names, often mentioned in the same breath as Château Margaux for its remarkable quality and finesse. The 2017 vintage reflects the estate’s signature blend of power, elegance, and precision, shaped by one of Bordeaux’s most meticulous producers.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Château Palmer 2017 typically shows a deep ruby-purple color with excellent concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, offering dark berries, blackcurrant, violet, cedar, graphite, and subtle spice, with the kind of aromatic complexity that unfolds gradually over time.
On the palate, it is structured and intense yet polished, with ripe Cabernet Sauvignon character at the core: cassis, blackberry, tobacco leaf, and fine mineral notes, supported by refined tannins and fresh, balancing acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with strong aging potential; while already impressive, this is a wine that will continue to evolve beautifully over many years.
Production
Sourced from the prestigious Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, Château Palmer benefits from gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and help the vines produce concentrated, balanced fruit. The estate has fully embraced biodynamic viticulture, with a strong focus on biodiversity, vineyard harmony, and sustainable farming. Harvesting is carried out with great precision, and vinification is guided by parcel selection and careful extraction to preserve purity, structure, and aromatic depth.
Food & Serving
This is a wine to serve with refined dishes such as beef filet, lamb, duck breast, or game birds, as well as truffle-based preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, to allow the wine’s aromatics and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Château Palmer is one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, located in the heart of Margaux and long regarded as one of the appellation’s true benchmarks. Since Thomas Duroux took over in 2006, the château has become widely admired for its biodynamic transformation and continued rise in quality, earning global recognition for producing wines of exceptional depth, character, and longevity.
