Description

Château Mouton Rothschild 2016 is a benchmark Pauillac wine from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, known for its power, precision, and unmistakable sense of prestige. Made from the classic left-bank blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it combines depth and structure with remarkable polish and is widely regarded as one of the standout wines of the vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, concentrated color with the kind of dark intensity you expect from a great Bordeaux. The nose is complex and layered, opening with blackcurrant, blackberry, graphite, cedar, and subtle floral and tobacco notes, while time in the glass reveals touches of spice, cocoa, and fine oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with finely grained tannins, fresh acidity, and excellent balance. The fruit is ripe but disciplined, supported by mineral tension and a long, precise finish. This is a wine with outstanding aging potential and should evolve beautifully over many years, gaining even more nuance and complexity with cellaring.

Production
Château Mouton Rothschild is located in Pauillac, one of the most distinguished appellations on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where gravelly soils provide ideal drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve depth, finesse, and tannic definition. The estate works with carefully selected fruit from its historic vineyards, with harvesting typically carried out by hand to preserve quality and sorting rigorously applied before vinification. Fermentation is conducted with great attention to detail, followed by aging in French oak barrels to integrate structure, enhance aromatic complexity, and support the wine’s long-lived style.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck, game, or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffle. Serve at around 16-18°C for the best expression, and decanting for at least 2 hours is recommended when the wine is young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Producer
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates and a reference point for top-quality Pauillac. Its history is closely tied to the Rothschild family, and the château is also famous for its celebrated artist-designed labels, which have become part of its identity. Over the decades, it has earned a reputation for producing some of the most collectible and admired wines in the world, with 2016 standing as a highly regarded modern vintage.
