Château Montrose 2020

Château Montrose 2020 is the estate’s prestigious first wine, produced from a rigorous selection of the finest parcels and barrels. A renowned Saint-Estèphe Grand Cru Classé, it combines remarkable structure with poise, refinement and the depth required for long-term ageing. The 2020 vintage is a rare and highly sought-after release from one of Bordeaux’s most consistent estates.

Tasting Notes
Deeply coloured and concentrated in the glass, Château Montrose 2020 offers a complex bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, complemented by violet, graphite, cedar and subtle spice. On the palate, it is powerful yet finely balanced, with layers of dark fruit, mineral nuance and well-integrated oak. Firm, polished tannins provide impressive length and structure, while the wine’s freshness gives it elegance and energy. This is a classic long-lived Bordeaux with considerable ageing potential. It will reward cellaring for many years, developing further notes of tobacco, truffle, leather and savoury spice with time. Although approachable after extended decanting, its full complexity will emerge with patience.

Production
The vineyards of Château Montrose benefit from gravelly soils on the banks of the Gironde estuary, a terroir that provides excellent drainage while moderating temperatures and supporting even ripening. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes are carefully harvested and rigorously selected at every stage of production. The wine is matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, and the first wine represents approximately 35–40% of the estate’s total production.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C after decanting for around two to four hours, allowing the wine’s concentration and aromatic complexity to unfold. It is an excellent match for prime rib, roast lamb, venison and other richly flavoured game dishes, as well as beef tenderloin, duck and mature hard cheeses. For a young bottle, generous aeration is recommended; older vintages may require gentler decanting to separate any sediment.
