Why shop with us?
Château Montifaud Vieux Pineau des Charentes Rouge is a distinctive, gently sweet fortified wine from Cognac, made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and blended with Cognac eaux-de-vie. A regional speciality, Pineau des Charentes is produced by adding Cognac to grape must, preserving its natural sweetness and fresh fruit character.
Tasting Notes
Its lightly reddish hue leads into fresh aromas of raspberry, strawberry and delicate floral notes. The palate echoes the lively red fruit, with refreshing acidity balancing the sweetness and the Cognac adding depth and character.
Aged for 10–12 years in oak, this Vieux Pineau has developed added complexity and a rounded texture. It is ready to enjoy now; the supplied information does not specify further bottle-ageing potential.
Production
Made in the Cognac region from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape must is fortified with Cognac partway through alcoholic fermentation. This halts fermentation, retaining natural sweetness and fruit acidity while raising the alcohol level to 17%. The Pineau is then matured in oak barrels for 10–12 years. Specific vineyard conditions and harvesting methods are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C, with desserts featuring red fruit, nuts or ice cream. Its fresh, fruit-led style also works well as an after-dinner pour. Decanting is not necessary; serve from the bottle once chilled.
