Description
Château Margaux 2018 is one of Bordeaux’s great icons: a first growth wine that combines rare finesse, depth, and longevity. Sourced from one of the region’s most celebrated estates, it reflects the elegance and prestige that have made Château Margaux synonymous with world-class red wine for centuries.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2018 vintage is expected to show a deep, refined color with remarkable concentration. The nose typically opens with layers of blackcurrant, violet, cedar, and subtle vanilla, unfolding with time into more complex notes of spice, graphite, and dark fruit.
On the palate, Château Margaux is known for its seamless balance of power and grace: dense fruit, polished tannins, and a long, vibrant finish. While impressive in youth, it is built for patience and can evolve beautifully for decades, gaining further aromatic complexity, silkiness, and nuance over time.
Production
The vineyards at Château Margaux are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc complementing the blend, on soils that give the wine its signature precision and aromatic lift. The estate carefully limits yields and focuses on preserving older vines, which contribute concentration, depth, and complexity. Vinification is carried out with meticulous attention to detail to preserve freshness, purity, and the estate’s characteristic elegance.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with fine cuts of beef, lamb, game, duck, or dishes with truffle and earthy mushroom accents. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if drinking young; for a mature bottle, a brief decant is usually enough to open the aromas without losing delicacy.
Producer
Château Margaux is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and prestigious estates, with origins dating back to the 16th century and first-growth status in the 1855 classification. Today it is owned and run by Corinne Mentzelopoulos, whose leadership has helped maintain the estate’s exceptional reputation and quality. The château remains a benchmark for Left Bank Bordeaux and one of the most admired names in fine wine worldwide.
