Description

Château Lynch-Bages 2000 is a standout Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most admired estates, combining the power and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the suppleness of Merlot. Widely regarded as one of the great vintages for Lynch-Bages, it reflects both the house’s historic pedigree and the precision that has defined the Cazes family since 1939.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep purple core with remarkable density and youthful vitality for its age. The bouquet is expressive and layered, unfolding with blackberries, cassis, graphite, and subtle ink-like notes, all lifted by the classic mineral edge of Pauillac. On the palate, it is full-bodied and composed, with velvety tannins that have softened beautifully while still providing ample structure. The wine delivers impressive purity, texture, and depth, balancing ripe fruit, earthy complexity, and firm backbone. While it is drinking well now, it still has significant aging potential and should continue to evolve gracefully for many more years.

Production
Château Lynch-Bages is based on the Bages plateau just southwest of Pauillac, where gravel-rich soils and an excellent Bordeaux terroir favor Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate spans around 100 hectares divided into numerous parcels, allowing careful vineyard management across vines of varying ages. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by destemming and sorting before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is then matured for 15 to 18 months in French oak, up to 75% of it new, depending on the vintage, giving the Grand Vin its signature power, polish, and aging capacity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, entrecôte, venison, or duck breast, as well as truffle-infused dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully, especially if enjoyed now.

Producer
Château Lynch-Bages has been owned by the same family since Jean-Charles Cazes acquired it in 1939, beginning a remarkable revival from a neglected estate that had once seen part of its vineyards given over to potato production. Under the Cazes family, the château has become one of the most stable and respected names in Pauillac, renowned for consistency, quality, and a style that marries power with elegance. Today it remains a benchmark for the appellation and is also known for its second and third wines, along with a white wine from separate vineyard holdings.
