Description

Château Léoville Barton 1995 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected historic estates. Built on old vines and the Barton family’s generations of experience, it shows the polished structure and depth that have made this property one of the benchmarks of the Médoc.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 1995 vintage should show a mature garnet color with some evolved brick edging. The bouquet opens with ripe blackcurrant and berry fruit, lifted by cedar, vanilla, and a subtle touch of spice, alongside the earthy, savory notes that come with age. On the palate it is full-bodied and composed, with silky tannins, firm Cabernet-driven structure, and a long, elegant finish. This is a wine with excellent aging pedigree, and while it has already developed beautifully, it can still offer pleasure for further cellaring if stored well.

Production
Léoville Barton sits in the heart of Saint-Julien, overlooking the Gironde, on gravel soils over clay subsoil that help regulate heat and water through Bordeaux’s variable climate. The estate’s 50 hectares are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, and many of the vines are old, contributing concentration and complexity. The blend and vinification follow classic Médoc tradition, with proportions adjusted to the vintage to preserve balance, structure, and the estate’s distinctly refined yet powerful style.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs naturally with classic Bordeaux fare such as roast lamb, entrecôte, duck breast, beef tenderloin, and game birds. It also works beautifully with hard cheeses or mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially if the bottle has been resting for some time, to help the wine open and show its full aromatic complexity.

Producer
Château Léoville Barton has been owned by the Barton family since the 1820s, making it one of the longest continuously family-run estates in Bordeaux. Originally built in 1758, the château became a 2ème Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification and has long been admired for wines that emphasize structure, elegance, and longevity. Today the estate is led by Lilian Barton, the ninth generation of the family, continuing a remarkable legacy in Saint-Julien.
