Description
Pauillac de Latour 2019 is the approachable, early-drinking expression from one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates. Often described as a gateway into the world of Château Latour, it captures the château’s signature graphite, cigar box and smoky character, while remaining generous, fruit-forward and immediately enjoyable.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with a polished, elegant look. The nose brings classic Pauillac notes of blackcurrant, cherry and kirsch, lifted by cedar, cigar smoke and a touch of tar and pencil shavings.
The palate is supple and well-framed, with Merlot contributing roundness and Cabernet Sauvignon providing structure and freshness. It is generous without feeling heavy, with a refined mineral edge and a long, savory finish. While already highly enjoyable now, it has enough balance to develop gracefully over the next several years.
Production
Pauillac de Latour is crafted from vineyards in the Pauillac appellation, where the gravelly terroir lends Cabernet Sauvignon its depth, precision and aromatic lift. The blend varies by vintage, but Merlot usually plays a leading role, with Cabernet Franc included in small but important proportions. Fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and large oak casks, followed by around 16 months of aging in barrels previously used for Latour’s other wines, before clarification with fresh egg whites and bottling.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with roasted lamb, grilled beef, duck breast, game birds or mushroom-based dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses and classic French cuisine. Best served at 16–18°C, and decanting for about 30–60 minutes is recommended if drinking young.
Producer
Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s most storied estates and a benchmark name in Pauillac and the wider wine world. Classified as a First Growth in 1855, the château is renowned for producing wines of extraordinary depth, structure and longevity. Pauillac de Latour, as the estate’s third wine, offers a more accessible introduction to that heritage while still carrying the unmistakable identity of Latour.
