Description
Château Latour 2011 is a finely tuned example of classic Pauillac, showing the precision and restraint that make this estate one of Bordeaux’s most revered names. In a vintage that demanded strict selection, it delivers remarkable purity, structure, and a beautifully aristocratic sense of balance. It’s a wine that already shows the Latour signature, while still promising much more to come.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Château Latour 2011 is deep and dark in appearance, with an almost opaque core and a polished, serious edge. The nose opens with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and a cool mineral character that speaks clearly of Pauillac’s finest gravel soils.
On the palate, the wine is composed and layered rather than forceful, with ripe but firmly framed tannins, vibrant acidity, and excellent definition. The fruit is dark and pure, supported by subtle earthy tones and a long, refined finish. This is a vintage built for patience, with significant aging potential ahead as its complexity continues to unfold over the years.
Production
Château Latour’s vineyards are centered around the historic L’Enclos, a prized gravel terroir in Pauillac that is ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, which forms the backbone of the blend alongside Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vines benefit from excellent drainage and the maritime climate of Bordeaux, helping preserve freshness and structure even in challenging vintages. For 2011, the estate’s rigorous selection and meticulous vinification подчеркna the wine’s clarity, finesse, and classical style.
Food & Serving
This is a natural match for roast lamb, beef fillet, venison, duck breast, or dishes with rich mushroom and truffle accents. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now, to allow the wine to open and show its full aromatic detail.
Producer
Château Latour is one of the legendary First Growth estates of Bordeaux and a benchmark producer in Pauillac, with a history that stretches back centuries. Known for its unwavering standards and highly selective release policy, the château has built a reputation for producing some of the most structured and long-lived wines in the Médoc. Its wines are widely regarded as among the most distinctive and collectible in the region.
