Description

Château Lagrange 1990 is a beautifully mature Saint-Julien red from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Classified Growth estates. Made from Cabernet Franc and shaped by the gravelly terroirs of the Médoc, it combines elegance, depth, and precision with the kind of complexity only time can bring. A classic wine with historic pedigree, it reflects both the strength of the 1855 classification and the enduring reputation of Château Lagrange.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a dark ruby core with graceful evolution at the rim, hinting at its maturity. The bouquet is refined and layered, with floral nuances, spice, mineral tones, and aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis, blackcurrant, smoke, licorice, and a subtle herbal lift of mint and underbrush. The palate is rich yet impeccably balanced, combining ripe berry fruit with fine-grained, creamy tannins and a long, savory finish. There is real depth and purity here, along with a velvety texture that gives the wine an opulent feel without losing Saint-Julien finesse. Fully mature now, it still has the structure to hold gracefully for years to come.

Production
Château Lagrange lies in the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, between Margaux and Pauillac. The estate’s vineyards sit on two gravel-covered hilltops made up of Günzian gravel, including one of the highest points in Saint-Julien, offering excellent drainage and ideal conditions for producing structured, ageworthy wines. The parcels remain aligned with the historic vineyard boundaries recognized in the 1855 classification. The estate’s roots go back to medieval times, when two separate properties later merged in the 17th century to form Château Lagrange. Its wines have long been shaped by careful vineyard work and traditional vinification, supported by an impressive cellar dating back to the 18th century. The 1990 vintage was crafted to emphasize concentration, elegance, and longevity, with oak, fruit, and tannin brought into harmonious balance through patient élevage.

Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, or classic dishes such as mushroom risotto and truffle-infused cuisine. Its refined structure and mature complexity also make it a wonderful partner for aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if the bottle shows sediment or if you want to allow the aromas to fully open.

Producer
Château Lagrange is one of the landmark estates of Saint-Julien and has held Third Growth status since the 1855 Bordeaux Classification under Napoleon III. With a history stretching back to the Middle Ages and a long association with prominent Bordeaux families, the estate developed into one of the Médoc’s most admired properties. It is especially known for its consistency, its finely balanced wines, and its privileged terroir on the gravel rises of the Left Bank.
