Château Lafleur 1995

Château Lafleur 1995 is one of Pomerol’s most coveted wines, produced in tiny quantities from the estate’s remarkably small 4.5-hectare site. Built around Cabernet Franc with near-equal Merlot, it captures the singular character of one of Bordeaux’s most sought-after and historic addresses.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows deep maturity with a still-vibrant core, moving toward garnet at the rim. The bouquet is beautifully layered, offering blackberry, smoke, black truffle, hot gravel and a subtle note of wild mint, with the kind of aromatic precision that has made Lafleur legendary. On the palate, it is medium-bodied but impressively deep and concentrated, with finely grained tannins and a savory, tertiary profile. Black fruit, bacon fat, earth and truffle unfold with confidence on the finish. It is in a superb drinking window now, yet still has the structure and balance to age gracefully for years to come.

Production
Château Lafleur sits in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, surrounded by some of the appellation’s most famous neighbors, where the soils help shape the estate’s signature blend of power, finesse and complexity. The fruit is traditionally fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and unlike many Bordeaux properties, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel, adding aromatic breadth and depth to the wine.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, refined dishes such as roasted lamb, duck breast, game, truffled mushrooms or beef tenderloin. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours to allow its layered aromatics to fully open, especially if the bottle has been stored for a long time.

Founded in 1872 by Henri Greloud, Château Lafleur has long been one of Pomerol’s most revered estates, though its tiny scale has always kept production extremely limited. Under the stewardship of Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau since 1985, and now with the next generation increasingly involved, the estate has maintained a reputation for precision, longevity and extraordinary quality. It remains one of Bordeaux’s most exclusive and highly sought-after wines.
