Description
Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2008 in magnum format is a powerful yet beautifully refined Pomerol, showing the opulence and depth that have made the estate one of the most admired names in Bordeaux. With its Merlot-led blend and the pedigree of the Moueix family behind it, this vintage offers both immediate allure and the structure to age gracefully for decades.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep plum, ruby, and purple hue, hinting at its concentration. The nose is seductive and layered, with sweet black cherries, ripe plum, licorice, truffle, and a subtle graphite note.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and silky, with rich fruit wrapped in polished tannins and excellent purity. It finishes long and persistent, with the kind of depth and balance that allows it to drink beautifully now while still promising excellent development over the next 20 years or more.
Production
La Fleur-Pétrus comes from the gravelly, clay-limestone and sand-rich soils of Pomerol, where Merlot thrives and gains its signature plush texture and aromatic intensity. The estate is farmed with a focus on quality, and the fruit is harvested by hand before careful sorting and vinification to preserve precision and freshness. Since the 2013 harvest, the wine has been made at the nearby Château Hosanna, with part of the aging still carried out in the historic cellars of La Fleur-Pétrus.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison, or dishes with truffle and mushrooms. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening now, especially in magnum, to allow the wine to fully раскры its aromatics and texture.
Producer
Château La Fleur-Pétrus is part of the celebrated Moueix portfolio, the family business that helped define modern Pomerol and remains one of Bordeaux’s most influential producers. Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired La Fleur-Pétrus in 1953, and subsequent vineyard expansions have strengthened the estate’s standing. Today, it is regarded as one of the region’s leading properties, consistently producing wines of richness, finesse, and exceptional longevity.
