Description

Château Haut-Brion 2000 in magnum format is a benchmark Bordeaux from one of the most historic estates in France. As the first wine in Bordeaux ever sold under a château name, it carries both legendary status and the grandeur of a rare large-format bottle, making it especially appealing for collectors and long-term cellaring.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage typically shows a deep garnet color with a mature but still vibrant core. The bouquet is strikingly complex, with aromas of roasted herbs, scorched earth, sweet blueberries, plums, blackcurrants, and a fine graphite edge, all unfolding with impressive depth and nuance. The palate is full-bodied, layered, and sumptuously textured, combining ripe dark fruit with earthy complexity, polished tannins, and exceptional length. While already highly expressive, the magnum format helps preserve freshness and structure, giving it excellent aging potential well into the coming decades.

Production
Château Haut-Brion’s vineyards lie in Pessac, just outside Bordeaux, on gravelly terroir that has long been prized for producing wines of singular finesse and complexity. The estate hand-harvests each parcel at optimal ripeness, then sorts and destems the fruit before fermentation, allowing only the finest berries to shape the final blend. The wine is then aged for 20 to 24 months in new oak barrels to build structure, aromatics, and the elegant layered character for which Haut-Brion is renowned.

Food & Serving
This is a wine for classic, deeply flavorful dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, venison, braised short ribs, or truffle-scented dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1 to 2 hours if drinking now, especially to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully. A larger magnum format also makes it ideal for serving at special occasions.

Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates, with origins dating back to the 16th century and a reputation that was already international by the 17th century. In 1935, the estate entered a new modern era under Clarence Dillon, and it remains in the Dillon family today, now led by Prince Robert of Luxembourg. As a First Growth in the 1855 Classification, Haut-Brion stands among the most celebrated and consistently exceptional wines in the world.
