Château Gruaud Larose 2019 is a classic Saint-Julien Bordeaux that combines power, elegance, and remarkable balance. Made from a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, it comes from one of the Médoc’s most respected 2nd Growth estates, long admired for its depth, finesse, and outstanding cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep in color, this 2019 shows the dark, brooding appearance expected from a serious left-bank Bordeaux. The nose opens with wild berries, plum, blackcurrant, licorice, pencil shavings, subtle earth, and hints of capsicum and spice, gaining complexity with air. On the palate it is medium- to full-bodied, seamless, and refined, with ripe black fruit, savory graphite, and finely judged oak framed by powdery tannins and fresh, succulent acidity. The wine feels concentrated and majestic without heaviness, and it has the structure and balance to age beautifully for many years, likely developing even more aromatic nuance over time.

Production
The grapes come from Saint-Julien, one of Bordeaux’s smallest appellations, where gravelly and clay-rich soils on a south-facing plateau help produce wines with both richness and charm. The estate’s old vines, including parcels over 80 years of age, contribute concentration and complexity. Since the 2019 vintage, Château Gruaud Larose has continued its move toward organic farming, while also using biodynamic practices such as herbal teas and trace-mineral preparations in the vineyard.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, or slow-braised dishes with herbs and root vegetables. It also pairs well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours, especially if opening it young, to allow the wine’s structure and aromatic layers to fully unfold.

Château Gruaud Larose is a historic 2nd Cru Classé estate founded in 1725 in the southern part of Saint-Julien. The property has passed through four major family chapters and has been under the ownership of Jacques Merlaut’s Taillan Group since 1997, bringing renewed momentum to the château’s reputation. Today it is widely regarded as one of Saint-Julien’s reference producers, with a strong international following and a reputation for wines with exceptional longevity.
