Description

Château Cos d'Estournel 2009 is a benchmark Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most distinctive estates, offering the power, elegance and longevity that have made the château a reference point for Left Bank wine. Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification, it reflects both the pedigree of the site and the brilliance of the 2009 vintage, a year celebrated for producing exceptionally ripe and balanced wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and maturity. The nose is generous and captivating, opening with blackcurrant, ripe plum, liquorice, cedar and a layer of exotic spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with impressive depth and structure. Silky tannins support the fruit beautifully, while the finish is long and persistent, marked by dark chocolate, toasted coffee bean and lingering spice. This is a wine with tremendous aging potential, yet already offers remarkable harmony and complexity.

Production
Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in Saint-Estèphe, the wine benefits from Bordeaux’s gravelly terroirs and the estate’s meticulous attention to ripeness and balance. The 2009 vintage, shaped by ideal growing conditions, allowed the grapes to reach excellent maturity, resulting in a wine of notable concentration, richness and finesse. Vinification follows the estate’s pursuit of precision and elegance, preserving the character of the fruit while building the structure needed for long cellaring.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted beef, lamb, duck breast, game birds or dishes with truffle, mushroom and rich sauces. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially to allow the aromatics and tannins to fully open.

Producer
Château Cos d'Estournel is one of the great names of Bordeaux, founded in the early 19th century and long admired for its unique style and unmistakable bottle design. Situated in Saint-Estèphe, the estate is known for producing wines that combine power, perfume and sophistication. Its status as a Second Growth and its consistent critical acclaim have secured its place among the most respected producers in the region.
