Description

Château Cheval Blanc 1982 is one of the most celebrated wines from Saint-Émilion, and a benchmark vintage from Bordeaux’s right bank. Built on the graceful interplay of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it combines power, finesse and remarkable longevity in a way that has made it legendary among collectors.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby core with subtle brick-toned edges, a sign of maturity and slow evolution. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with ripe red and black fruits lifted by cedar, tobacco, truffle and gentle spice, all framed by a refined earthy minerality. On the palate, it remains silken and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins, impressive depth and a long, persistent finish where tertiary notes have begun to shine without fully eclipsing the wine’s core fruit. At its peak now, this 1982 still has the structure and concentration to evolve further in bottle, developing additional nuance over time. It is a wine that rewards patience and attention, offering both immediate charm and the potential for even greater complexity with age.

Production
Sourced from the renowned Saint-Émilion estate on Bordeaux’s right bank, the wine reflects the region’s gravelly and clay-rich terroirs, which are especially well suited to Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 1982 vintage benefited from a highly favourable growing season, allowing the grapes to reach exceptional ripeness and balance. Careful harvesting and traditional vinification helped preserve the purity of the fruit while building the structure and finesse that define this iconic release.

Food & Serving
Best served with refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, game birds or venison, where its depth and elegance can complement rich flavours without overwhelming them. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting gently if the bottle is still showing some restraint, though extended decanting is usually unnecessary for a mature wine of this age.

Producer
Château Cheval Blanc is one of the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux and an enduring reference point for Saint-Émilion. Known for producing wines of exceptional elegance, complexity and age-worthiness, the estate has earned global acclaim over generations. Its reputation was firmly cemented by legendary vintages like 1982, which remain among the most sought-after wines in the world.
