Château Cantenac Brown 2020 is a beautifully classical Margaux that continues to grow in stature, combining the refined elegance of Bordeaux with the depth and complexity of a great vintage. Built in the early 1900s by Scottish painter John Lewis Brown in distinctive Tudor style, the estate has a story as characterful as the wine itself, and today it stands among the left bank properties to watch.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a polished, deeply colored Bordeaux with the poised structure you expect from Margaux. Aromas typically lean toward blackcurrant, cassis, plum, cedar, violets, and subtle spice, with a savoury undercurrent that reflects the estate’s classical style. On the palate, the 2020 vintage brings concentration and finesse together, with ripe Cabernet Sauvignon providing backbone, Merlot adding generosity, and Cabernet Franc lending lift and aromatic detail. Expect layers of dark fruit, tobacco, graphite, and fine tannins, all carried by fresh acidity; this is a wine with excellent aging potential and should reward cellaring for many years.

Production
Château Cantenac Brown sits in Margaux on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, where gravelly soils and a temperate Atlantic-influenced climate are ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The estate covers 48 hectares of vineyards with an average vine age of around 35 years, and cultivation is carried out sustainably with plant-based fertilizers only. Since 2006, the property has been owned by the Halabi family, who have invested significantly in the estate and appointed winemaker José Sanfins, under whose guidance quality has risen markedly. The blend reflects the domaine’s vineyard makeup and a vinification style aimed at preserving freshness, precision, and the elegant Margaux signature.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent partner for roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as classic French cuisine with rich sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young to allow the wine to fully unfold.
