Château Cantenac Brown 2020 is a polished Margaux-style Bordeaux that combines classic Cabernet-led structure with the charm and generosity of a strong vintage. With its distinctive Tudor château and a modern quality revival under the Halabi family, it stands out as one of the more characterful wines in the appellation.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby-purple colour with youthful brightness at the rim. The nose is refined and layered, offering blackcurrant, ripe plum and blackberry, alongside violet, cedar, graphite and a subtle smoky oak note. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a core of dark fruit framed by notes of spice, tobacco leaf and mineral precision. The finish is long and elegant, suggesting excellent cellaring potential; while already appealing in youth, it should develop beautifully over the next 10–20 years.

Production
The estate’s 48 hectares are planted on Margaux terroir, where gravelly soils and the Atlantic-influenced climate help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with finesse and aromatic detail. The vineyards are farmed sustainably, with plant-based fertilisers only, and the vines average around 35 years of age. The blend is vinified from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc to capture both structure and supple fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, venison and mushroom-based dishes, as well as hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.

Producer
Château Cantenac Brown was founded in the early 19th century by Scottish painter John Lewis Brown, who gave the estate its distinctive Tudor-style château. After several ownership changes, including periods under Rémy Martin and Axa, the estate has been owned by the Halabi family since 2006. Their investment, together with winemaker Jose Sanfins’ leadership, has significantly elevated the quality and reputation of the château in recent years.
