Tasting Notes
Deep garnet in color, the wine shows remarkable freshness for its age. The bouquet opens with brambly red fruit, blackcurrant, asphalt, and a subtle maritime edge, followed by evolving notes of winegum, truffle, and smoke as it breathes. On the palate it is medium-bodied yet substantial, with supple tannins, excellent backbone, and layered depth. The second half has softened beautifully over time, making it approachable now while still showing the structure and balance to continue aging gracefully for years to come, especially in magnum format.

Production
Calon-Ségur sits in the northern part of the Médoc, in Saint-Estèphe, on a distinctive terroir where thick gravel deposits over a clay subsoil create a powerful but refined style. The estate is among the oldest in the appellation, with roots dating back to 1147, and the vineyard is typically harvested late due to its northern exposure. Careful, patient vinification and a gentle approach in the cellar are central to the estate’s style, with long-term consultant Eric Boissenot contributing to its modern precision and depth.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game birds, duck breast, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening now, especially to allow the wine’s more subtle aromatic layers to unfold.
