Description

Château Beauregard Pomerol 2016 is a poised, classical Right Bank Bordeaux that marries depth and elegance in one of the region’s great modern vintages. Crafted from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, it showcases the silkiness and perfume that have made Pomerol so sought after among collectors. Farmed according to biodynamic principles and worked largely by horse, this is a wine that reflects both meticulous craftsmanship and a deep respect for its terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2016 Château Beauregard Pomerol presents a deep, vibrant ruby hue with a youthful purple rim, hinting at its concentration and energy. The nose is immediately seductive: ripe, juicy cherry leads the way, supported by dark stone fruits such as plum, along with subtle herbal and ethereal notes—think fresh herbs, a touch of menthol, and a gentle, almost incense-like lift. On the palate, the wine is strikingly supple and juicy, with a core of sweet cherry fruit wrapped in fine, velvety tannins. Darker fruit and delicate floral nuances—violets and a hint of rose—add layers of complexity. The texture is polished and refined, with a clear, chiselled structure that carries the fruit through to a long, elegant finish. Already appealing with some air, this 2016 is approachable now but has the balance and finesse to evolve beautifully over the next 10–15 years, gaining greater nuance and tertiary complexity with cellar time.

Production
Château Beauregard’s vineyards lie on Pomerol’s characteristic sand and clay soils, which are particularly favorable to Merlot, giving wines of both charm and depth. The vines average around 35 years of age, lending natural concentration and complexity to the fruit. Farmed along biodynamic principles and predominantly worked by horse, the estate focuses on gentle, precise viticulture even in challenging years like the rainy 2016 spring—no small feat for organic and biodynamic growers. Harvest is carried out with strict selection to ensure only perfectly ripe berries reach the cellar. Vinification typically involves careful sorting, temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve purity of fruit and aromatic finesse, and élevage in French oak barrels to refine the tannins and integrate the wine’s structure without overwhelming its natural elegance.

Food & Serving
This Pomerol is a versatile partner for refined, savory dishes: think roast lamb with herbs, duck breast, veal chops, or a classic beef tenderloin with seasonal vegetables. It also pairs beautifully with earthy components such as truffle, wild mushrooms, and root vegetable gratins, as well as aged hard cheeses like Comté or a well-matured Gouda. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and silky texture. Decant for about 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the wine to fully open and show its floral and herbal nuances; as it ages, a shorter, gentle decant to remove sediment will be sufficient.

Producer
Château Beauregard is one of the historic estates of Pomerol, long recognized for its distinctive circular driveway and elegant architecture, but even more so for its commitment to quality and terroir expression. Over recent years, the estate has embraced biodynamic viticulture, positioning itself among the forward-thinking properties on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. This shift, combined with exacting work in both vineyard and cellar, has elevated Beauregard into the top tier of Pomerol producers. In vintages like 2016, the château’s meticulous approach allows it to turn a climatically challenging year—especially for organic and biodynamic farming—into a poised, characterful wine that stands as a benchmark for the appellation.
