Chanin Wild King Pinot Noir 2021 is a striking, small-production California Pinot Noir that lets nature take the lead completely. Crafted by Gavin Chanin with no human intervention in the vineyard, it captures the wild side of Pinot Noir while still showing remarkable finesse, freshness, and balance at just 12% alcohol.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vivid, expressive profile with bright red and purple fruit at the core. The bouquet is highly aromatic and distinctive, with notes of black cherry, ripe yet lifted raspberry, mint, sage, liquorice, leather, smoke, and warm spice. The palate is defined by vibrant acidity, impressive breadth, and layered complexity, giving the wine both energy and depth. Despite the tiny berries and intense aromatics, the tannins are silky and polished, leading to a long, satisfying finish. While already compelling now, it has the structure and freshness to develop beautifully with a few years in bottle.

Production
Wild King comes from a vineyard site where nature is allowed to shape the wine entirely, with no human assistance in the growing process. This hands-off approach means yields can be extremely unpredictable from year to year, and in some vintages there may be no wine at all from the site. The result is a Pinot Noir that reflects its terroir in an unusually pure and untamed way, with naturally small berries contributing concentration and aromatic intensity.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a superb match for duck, roast chicken, quail, game birds, wild mushroom dishes, and salmon. It also pairs beautifully with earthy vegetarian plates, especially anything featuring lentils, root vegetables, or herbs. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and consider a short decant if opening it young to let its aromatic complexity unfold.
