Champagne Louis Roederer Brut Collection 242 Magnum marks an elegant new chapter for the house’s non-vintage Champagne, combining precision, freshness, and a strong sense of terroir. Named after the 242nd harvest in Louis Roederer’s history, it reflects both the maison’s long heritage and its modern commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with citrus, pear, and white flowers, followed by subtle notes of toasted almonds and a gentle, refined spice from partial oak aging.
The palate is generous yet beautifully balanced, with a lively mineral backbone, ripe fruit, and a silky, lingering finish. Thanks to extended cellar aging, the wine has excellent harmony and can evolve further over the next few years, gaining even more depth and complexity.
Production
Collection 242 is built around the 2017 harvest, blended with reserve wines from Louis Roederer’s Réserve Perpétuelle, a solera-like reserve system begun in 2012, as well as selected wines aged in oak. The blend of 42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir, and 22% Meunier is designed to express freshness, structure, and fruit in equal measure, while the house’s sustainable approach allows the character of the Champagne terroir to come through clearly. After secondary fermentation, the wine matures in the cellars for at least four years before release.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is ideal as an aperitif, but it also pairs wonderfully with shellfish, seafood, poultry, and mild cheeses. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and there is no need to decant; simply allow it to open in the glass if you want the aromas to unfold more gradually.
Producer
Champagne Louis Roederer is one of the great historic houses of Champagne, founded in 1776 and still family-owned, with a reputation for finesse, depth, and meticulous vineyard work. The house is particularly respected for its commitment to biodynamic and sustainable practices, and for crafting cuvées that consistently rank among the region’s most admired wines.
