Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection 2017 is the flagship wine from Caymus Vineyards and one of California’s most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons. Released only in exceptional vintages, it has earned legendary status among collectors — including being named Wine Spectator’s “Number One Wine in the World” twice — and remains a must-try for serious wine lovers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, inky color that hints at the concentration within. The bouquet opens with dark cherry, blueberry pie, and boysenberry, layered with notes of tar, milk chocolate, and licorice that become more expressive with a little time in the glass. The palate is rich, powerful, and beautifully polished, offering waves of dark cherry, blueberry, raspberry liqueur, boysenberry, and light chocolate shavings, all carried by a long, almost endless finish. It is already impressive now, but it has the structure and depth to evolve gracefully over time.

Production
Special Selection is made only in vintages where the finest vineyard blocks reach outstanding ripeness and quality. The grapes come from Caymus’ best parcels in Napa Valley, where warm days and cooling influences help develop the wine’s signature depth, plush fruit, and ripe tannins. Under the direction of Chuck Wagner, the wine is crafted for concentration, balance, and remarkable intensity.

Food & Serving
This is a bold Cabernet Sauvignon that pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb, venison, or rich mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least one to two hours to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open, especially if enjoying it young.
