Description
Cavallotto’s Dolcetto d'Alba Vigna Scot 2022 is a vivid, characterful red from a prized parcel in the heart of Barolo country. Sourced from old vines on a unique 2.96-hectare site between Bricco Boschis and Vignolo, it combines Dolcetto’s natural fruitiness with impressive structure and a distinctly Piedmontese sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, lively ruby color that hints at its freshness. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of red and black cherries leading the way.
On the palate, those berry notes return with clarity, lifted by ripe fruit balance, refreshing acidity, and firm but approachable tannins. The result is a wine with real shape and energy, offering enough structure to stand up to food while remaining supple and easy to enjoy now. It is best appreciated young for its vivid fruit, though it should hold well over the short to medium term.
Production
Vigna Scot comes from a special Dolcetto parcel planted on a hillside in one of the most respected areas for Barolo production. The old vines sit at the top of the slope, where the terroir contributes depth, freshness, and concentration to the grapes. After harvesting, the fruit is fully destemmed and pressed in a horizontal press, then fermented with native yeasts at a controlled temperature of 29°C. The wine is aged for six months in Slavonian oak casks of various sizes, followed by another six months in cement tank before bottling at the estate.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for classic Italian dishes such as vitello tonnato, beef tartare, pasta with meat sauce, cured meats, and roasted poultry. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, to bring out the wine’s freshness and fruit. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open the aromatics if enjoyed young.
Producer
Cavallotto is a respected family estate in Piemonte with a strong reputation for traditional, site-driven wines. Based in the Barolo area, the winery is known for its careful viticulture and commitment to expressing the character of its vineyards rather than heavy cellar influence. Over the years, Cavallotto has earned recognition for producing wines of finesse, authenticity, and excellent aging potential.
