Why shop with us?
Castello di Pomino Pinot Nero is an elegant Tuscan red that brings Pinot Noir’s finesse together with a small proportion of Sangiovese. Made at the historic Castello Pomino estate by Frescobaldi, it reflects a meeting of traditional Tuscan winemaking and a thoughtful, innovative approach.
Tasting Notes
The wine is described as intense yet refined, with aromas of red and dark berries, including blackberry, plum, blueberry and cherry. Subtle balsamic notes of mint and nutmeg add complexity.
Production
The blend is 95% Pinot Noir and 5% Sangiovese. After harvest, the Pinot Noir fermented in temperature-controlled, 60-hectolitre conical oak vats, with manual punch-downs—particularly early in fermentation—to encourage extraction from the skins. Maceration lasted 13 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels and a further 15 months of ageing. Vineyard and harvest-method details are not provided.
Food & Serving
Its fresh character and silky tannins make it a natural match for roast poultry, duck, mushroom dishes or lightly seasoned pork. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C. A brief decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open, though it may also be enjoyed directly after opening.
Producer
Castello Pomino is part of the Frescobaldi portfolio, connecting this Pinot Noir with a historic Tuscan estate and one of the region’s established wine families. The wine’s use of Pinot Noir alongside a small amount of Sangiovese reflects a distinctive approach within Tuscany. Further details about the estate’s history and specific achievements are not provided.
